Anthropods' exoskeletons are hardened by biomineralization. Cuticles are made of chitin and protected by the epidermis (outermost layer of skin). Epicuticle is a thin, moisture proof, waxy layer. Exocutucles have chitin and chemically hardened proteins, while endocuticles are the same thing with unhardened proteins.
